When the police or CPS refuse to prosecute, justice does not have to end there. You have the legal right to bring a private prosecution – a powerful tool that allows individuals and businesses to take legal action where public authorities have failed or declined to do so.
At Investigations Law we have expert lawyers in bringing and defending private prosecutions. Whether you are a victim of fraud, theft, harassment, or another serious offence, we provide decisive, strategic representation to hold wrongdoers to account and protect your interests.
A private prosecution is a criminal case initiated by an individual or organisation, rather than the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). It is governed by section 6(1) of the Prosecution of Offences Act 1985. It allows victims to pursue justice when public bodies are unwilling or unable to act.
Private prosecutions are suitable in a wide range of cases, including:

Glenn qualified as a solicitor in 1994 and initially worked in private practice as a Partner in a busy high street law firm, specialising in Criminal defence work. During this time, Glenn covered a variety of criminal cases, defending clients in matters that ranged from road traffic offences to more serious assaults, sexual offences and murder. Glenn also had an interest in fraud cases and often received instructions from clients upon recommendation, which resulted in cases being referred from all regions of the country. His extensive criminal law experience gave Glenn a sound knowledge upon which to base the advice he gave to clients to achieve their best possible outcome.
Following 10 years in criminal defence work, Glenn then joined the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) as a Senior Crown Prosecutor. He prosecuted a wide range of offences, dealing with the most serious and complex cases, and court advocacy.
Glenn was promoted within the CPS and spent 18 years as a Legal Manager, not only managing a team of Prosecutors, but also dealing with serious crime prosecutions. Glenn actively liaised with senior police officers before cases were charged and provided proactive advice to enable the police to make appropriate additional investigations to strengthen the case before authorising a charge.
Glenn built up a particular expertise in Domestic Abuse prosecutions and Stalking and Harassment matters, becoming the Area Lead on both. In addition, Glenn was also the Area Disclosure Lead, and liaised with the police to ensure disclosure best practice was adhered to, ensuring prosecutions were fair.
As a result of the direct liaison with the Police, Glenn regularly provided training to all his local Police Constabularies, covering training on the rules of evidence in criminal cases, disclosure and specific areas such as Domestic Abuse and Harassment.
Glenn received a National Award from the Director of Public Prosecutions in recognition of his work with local police constabularies. This award acknowledged Glenn’s contribution to police training and his engagement to improve case files and the provision of evidence gathered by investigators.
Outside of work, Glenn enjoys spending time with his family and socialising with friends. Living on the Northeast coast, Glenn enjoys dog walking on the beaches and taking in the scenery of rural Northumberland. Glenn enjoys football as a spectator and has a season ticket for his local team.
